Jones Receives Defensive POTY, First-Team All-AMCC Honors

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona men's basketball junior forward Dwayne Jones (Philadelphia, PA/Greater Johnstown) was voted the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Defensive Player of the Year and also received first-team all-conference honors, as the league released its postseason awards on Tuesday morning.

Jones made a big impact for the Lions at both ends of the court, while the junior played in 25 games for Penn State Altoona, starting 24 of them.

Among all players in the AMCC this season, Jones was first in blocks (52), blocks per game (2.1), and points per 40 minutes (22.6) while also being second in defensive rebounds (174) and total rebounds per game (9.2), third in total rebounds (230), sixth in free throws made (83) and offensive rebounds (56), seventh in field goals made (153), field goal percentage (52.4), and steals (42), ninth in points per game (16.0) and steals per game (1.7), and 10th in total points (401). He also finished 12th in the conference in free throw percentage (74.8), 28th in assists per game (1.8), and 31st in total assists (46).

Jones was a two-time AMCC Player of the Week this winter, picking up the recognition on December 11 and January 29.

This is Jones' second consecutive season being voted the AMCC's Defensive Player of the Year. It is also his first collegiate appearance on an AMCC all-conference team.

Penn State Altoona men's basketball was 10-16 overall in 2023-24, including going 9-9 in the AMCC. The Lions finished sixth in the AMCC standings and earned a conference postseason berth for the fourth season in a row.
