Men’s Golf Finishes Regular Season at Emory Invite

CONYERS, Ga. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team wrapped up its 2023-24 regular season schedule on Sunday, competing in the second and final day of this weekend's Emory University Spring Invitational at Cherokee Run Golf Club.

After inclement weather delayed the start of Sunday's round, the Lions were able to finally tee off by late morning. Penn State Altoona went on to shoot 319 in the round, which was the third and final of the weekend, to compile a total score of 966 and rank 11th out of 11 teams.

Washington & Lee University and host Emory tied for first place on the team leaderboard with matching three-round scores of 900. Averett University came in third with 912.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) was the Lions' top finisher by the conclusion of the tournament. He shot 81 in Sunday's round on the par 72 course and totaled 240 over three rounds to tie for 39th place out of 67 individuals.

Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) shot 80 on Sunday, compiling a three-round score of 242 to tie for 43rd place. Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) had Penn State Altoona's low score of Sunday's round, firing a 6-over par 78 to finish with a three-round score of 248, putting him in a tie for 55th place.

Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) tied for 57th place, scoring 249 over three rounds following his 80 on Sunday. Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) shot 85 on Sunday, finishing with a total score of 250 to place 60th. Sean McCullough (Kittanning, PA/West Shamokin) took 66th place, after carding 91 in Sunday's round to finish with a three-round score of 257.

With its regular season now behind it, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team will prepare to make its seventh-ever NCAA postseason appearance, as the Lions will compete in the Division III Championships on May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

The team earned its NCAA postseason berth thanks to its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship win last October. The Lions' first-place AMCC finish gave the league's automatic NCAA postseason bid to Penn State Altoona.
