
Men’s Golf Starts Northeast Elite in Sixth Place
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's golf began this weekend's two-day Northeast Elite tournament on Saturday at Williamsport Country Club, where the Lions shared hosting duties with Penn College.
Penn State Altoona shot 290 in round one on the par 71 course, finishing the day in sixth place out of 20 teams after shooting 6-over as a squad. The Lions' 290 is their third-lowest score of the season to date, and it also represents the fourth-lowest team round in program history.
Trinity College (CT) was in first place by Saturday's end, shooting 282. The University of Rochester held second place with 285, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was in third place 286.
Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) were the Lions' top finishers on the day. Each player shot 1-over par, with their matching scores of 72 putting them in a tie for 19th place out of 104 individuals on the player leaderboard.
Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) and Joey Sabol (State College, PA/State College) also carded matching scores, with their 73s putting them in a tie for 28th place by the round's conclusion. Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) shot 80 to tie for 93rd place.
Ethan Ellis (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) also competed for Penn State Altoona as an individual. He shot 4-over par to finish the day in a tie for 49th place.
The Lions return to action tomorrow, Sunday, September 29, for the second and final day of the Northeast Elite.
