Lions Hold First Place in Day One of AMCC Championships

BUTLER, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team finished day one of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships in first place, holding the top spot on the team leaderboard after Monday's round at Butler Country Club.

The Lions shot 312 as a team on the par 71 course to rank atop the pack. Mount Aloysius College ended the day in second place with 320, and Pitt-Greensburg was close behind with 321 for third place.

Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) carded Penn State Altoona's low score on the day, shooting 5-over par, 76, to finish the round in third place out of 40 individuals. Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) was in fourth place, after scoring 6-over par with a 77.

Ethan Ellis (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) was in sixth place individually after carding 8-over par, 79. Joey Sabol (State College, PA/State College) ended the round in a tie for seventh place with an 80, and Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) scored an 82 to tie for 12th place.

Penn State Altoona men's golf will look to close the two-day AMCC Championships on a strong note, as the Lions aim to hold on to first place after the second round of the tournament tomorrow, Tuesday, October 15. A first-place finish by Penn State Altoona tomorrow would represent the program's ninth-ever AMCC title, including its fourth in a row.
