
Men’s Golf Begins Last Fall Tournament
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team opened its final tournament of the fall schedule in a tie for 11th place, as the Lions competed in day one of The Melee, presented by Premier Collegiate Tournaments, on Sunday at Ford's Colony Country Club.
The Lions, playing with their 'B' squad in the two-day event, shot 327 on the par 72 course to land in a tie for 11th place out of 14 teams.
Drew University was atop the pack by the conclusion of day one with a team score of 288. McDaniel College was in second place with 292, and Dickinson College held down third place with 305.
Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) led the way for Penn State Altoona, shooting 6-over par in round one, with his score of 78 placing him in a tie for 23rd place out of 70 individuals. Samuel Sharbaugh (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) carded an 80 to tie for 34th place.
Trent Querry (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) was in a tie for 51st place following the first round, during which he shot 83. Roger Royer (Williamsburg, PA/Williamsburg Community) scored 86 to tie for 58th, and Sean McCullough (Kittanning, PA/West Shamokin) ended the day in 62nd place with a score of 88.
The men's golf team will play in the second and final day of The Melee tomorrow, Monday, October 21, with the round's tee times scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
