Men’s Golf Places 11th in Fall Finale

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team played the last round of its fall schedule on Monday, when the Lions competed in day two of The Melee, presented by Premier Collegiate Tournaments, at Ford's Colony Country Club.

Penn State Altoona shaved 11 strokes off its first-round score, shooting 316 in Monday's round to combine for a two-day score of 643 on the par 72 course. The Lions finished the tournament in 11th place out of 14 teams.

Drew University won The Melee with a two-day total of 584, McDaniel College was the runner-up with 590, and Bridgewater College placed third with 608.

Samuel Sharbaugh (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) was Penn State Altoona's top finisher, tying for 20th place out of 69 individuals with a two-day score of 154, including firing 2-over par, 74, on Monday. Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) placed 33rd, after he shot 79 on Monday to finish with a two-round total of 157.

Roger Royer (Williamsburg, PA/Williamsburg Community) carded 76 on Monday, combining for 162 strokes in two rounds to tie for 43rd place. Trent Querry (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) took 61st place, after shooting 87 on Monday and recording a total score of 170. Sean McCullough (Kittanning, PA/West Shamokin) scored 179 across two rounds, including Monday's 91, to come in 66th place.

With its fall schedule now complete, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team will take a break from intercollegiate competition until the spring semester. The Lions will return to Williamsburg for their first scheduled event of the spring, when the team will compete in The Ruckus on March 22-23 at Williamsburg National Golf Club.
