Six Lions Voted to Men’s Golf All-Conference Team

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Six members of the Penn State Altoona men's golf program were voted to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's All-Conference team, the league office announced on Friday morning.

Headlining the awards were head coach Tom Koehle, who was voted the AMCC Coach of the Year, and junior Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy), who was chosen as the conference's Golfer of the Year. Meanwhile, Nusbaum and sophomore Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) were both first-team All-AMCC selections, sophomores Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Joey Sabol (State College, PA/State College) were voted to the second team, and freshman Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) was a third-team pick.

Koehle earns the AMCC Coach of the Year honor for the fifth time in his tenure with the Lions golf program. This fall, he guided Penn State Altoona to its fourth consecutive conference title and ninth all-time. Earlier this season, Koehle's team received votes in the Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll for the first time in program history.

Nusbaum becomes the AMCC Golfer of the Year for the second season in a row. The junior competed in 10 rounds for the Lions this fall, averaging a team-best 73.3 per round. During the AMCC Championships on October 14-15, Nusbaum finished in first place with a two-day score of 144, including shooting 67 in the second day to tie the Penn State Altoona men's golf program's all-time low score record.

Riscica, in his first season with the Lions golf program, played in 10 rounds for the team this fall and was second on the squad in scoring average, shooting 74.6 per round. His lowest score of the season came in the second round of The Gauntlet on September 16, when he fired a 69, which was the third-lowest score in a round in Lions history. During the AMCC Championships, Riscica placed seventh individually with a two-round score of 160.

Bruce competed in 10 rounds for Penn State Altoona this fall, shooting 76.7 per round, which ranked third-best on his team. His lowest score of the season was a 70 during day two of The Gauntlet on September 16, and during the AMCC Championships, he tied for third place on the player leaderboard with a two-round score of 155.

In his first season with Penn State Altoona men's golf, Sabol ranked fifth on his squad in scoring average, shooting 77.4 per round while golfing in 10 rounds. The sophomore's best score of the season was a 73 during day one of The Northeast Elite on September 28, and in the AMCC Championships, he tied for eighth place with a two-day score of 161.

Helsley played eight rounds in his freshman campaign with the Lions golf program, finishing the fall with a scoring average of 76.88 that ranked fourth-best on the team. His low score of the season came during day two of The Northeast Elite on September 29, when he shot 72.

Penn State Altoona men's golf will return to action during the spring semester, beginning with The Ruckus on March 22-23.
