
Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Camp Lejeune Tourney; Nusbaum Wins Individual Title
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team wrapped up the three-day Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Golf Championship on Sunday, finishing in ninth place out of 24 teams by the conclusion of the tournament, which was held at Paradise Point Golf Course.
The Lions shot 297 in Sunday's round and totaled 888 shots as a team across three days. Junior Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) won the tournament's individual title by two shots, placing first in a pack of 120 golfers with a three-round score of 212.
Sandhills Community College and Shenandoah University tied atop the team leaderboard with matching scores of 873. Guilford College was third with 875, and Oglethorpe University came in fourth with 879. The 24-team tournament field was strong from top to bottom, including several ranked teams in Division III men's golf: No. 7 Oglethorpe, No. 14 Guilford, No. 17 Babson College, No. 21 Averett University, and No. 47 John Carroll University.
After shooting 2-under par in Saturday's round, Nusbaum matched that score with another 70 on Sunday to compile a three-round total of 212. He finished the weekend 4-under par and won the individual title outright, edging Shenandoah's Ben Gray and Drew University's Elliot Parker by two strokes.
Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) also had a top-10 finish for Penn State Altoona, tying for ninth place individually with a three-day score of 217. Bruce was 1-over par in Sunday's round, firing 73 and finishing the weekend as the Lions' second-best finisher.
Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) carded 78 on Sunday and totaled 228 shots in three days to tie for 62nd place. Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) scored a 77 in round three, tying for 77th place on the player leaderboard with a total score of 232. Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) tied for 90th place, carding 77 on Sunday and finishing with a three-day total of 236.
Next up, men's golf will host its final home tournament of the 2024-25 season on Friday, April 11, when the Lions will welcome a field of teams to compete in the Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational at Sinking Valley Country Club. The event is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
