Men’s Swimming Ties W&J in Season Opener
WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team opened its 2024-25 schedule on Friday night, when the Lions took on non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College in a dual meet at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.
Penn State Altoona and W&J settled for a tie, as the two teams ended the meet deadlocked at 114.5-114.5. The Lions recorded five first-place finishes during the dual.
Penn State Altoona's first win of the night came in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, in which Caden Traggiai (Sarver, PA/Knoch) placed first with a time of 10:30.64. Traggiai later secured another first-place finish, when he came in atop the standings in the 500 Yard Freestyle by clocking in at 5:00.64.
Lincoln Johnson (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) tied for first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle, recording a time of 23.16 to finish with a share of the top spot in the race. Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools) won the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 49.37.
Penn State Altoona finished the night by prevailing in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which the squad of Sun, Anthony Solimeo (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt), Johnson, and Traggiai combined for a time of 1:31.41 to nab first place.
Penn State Altoona men's swimming returns to action on Friday, October 25, when the Lions will head to Latrobe, Pa., to take on non-conference foe Saint Vincent College in a dual meet starting at 6 p.m.
