Men’s Swimming Tops McDaniel, 65-30

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team notched its second dual meet victory of the season on Saturday, when the Lions defeated non-conference opponent McDaniel College 65-30 at the Harlow Pool.

Penn State Altoona accumulated nine first-place finishes, seven in individual swims and two in relays. Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools) led the way with two individual wins while also being part of one of the relay firsts.

The Lions opened the meet by staking out the top spot in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, in which the foursome of Hunter McMullen (Colver, PA/Central Cambria), Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township), Lincoln Johnson (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown), and Eugene Heyman (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) combined for a time of 1:45.49.

Caden Traggiai (Sarver, PA/Knoch) followed with a triumph in the day's first individual swim, as he placed first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:21.26.

Sun came next with his first victory of the day, coming first in the 200 Yard Freestyle after finishing in 1:50.99. He later notched his second win of the meet in the 500 Yard Freestyle, taking first place with a time of 5:13.46.

Rocco Solimeo (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) won the 50 Yard Freestyle in 23.35, and McMullen took first in the 100 Yard Butterfly after finishing in 54.30. Johnson prevailed in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 51.44, and Nguyen notched a win in the 100 Yard Breaststroke after compiling a time of 1:04.85.

The Lions concluded the meet by taking first place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which Sun, Solimeno, Nick Trabucco (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs), and Benjamin Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) came together to record a time of 3:29.42.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming returns to action next weekend, when the Lions will face their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference competition of the season. The squad will hit the road for Alfred, N.Y., on Saturday, November 9, to swim against conference foe Alfred State College in a meet starting at 1 p.m.
