
Men’s Swimming Overpowers Lycoming 198-30 in Home Opener
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team posted a lopsided victory on Friday night in the Adler Natatorium, when the Lions hosted their first home meet of the season and earned a 198-30 win over non-conference opponent Lycoming College.
Penn State Altoona won all 15 of the meet's events, earning its fifth dual meet victory of the season. Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) led the way with a team-high three individual first places, while Hunter McMullen (Covler, PA/Central Cambria) and Caden Traggiai (Sarver, PA/Knoch) each had two individual wins.
Dotts' first victory of the evening came in the 50 Yard Freestyle, which he won with a time of 22.35. He later took first in the 100 Yard IM with a time of 57.78, and he clinched the hat trick by coming first in the 150 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:47.70.
McMullen won the 50 Yard Butterfly after posting a time of 24.06, and he later finished first in the 100 Yard Freestyle after recording a time of 50.52. Traggiai finished atop the standings in the 100 Yard Breaststroke after clocking in at 1:08.81, and he earned another win with a time of 1:20.77 in the 150 Yard Freestyle.
Eugene Heyman (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) earned a first place finish in the 50 Yard Backstroke, finishing in 25.40. Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) followed that by taking first in the 50 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 30.16.
Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools) won the 100 Yard Butterfly after clocking in at 56.09, and Nicolas Louis (Queens, NY/Rabun Gap Naccochee) took a first place finish in the next swim, the 100 Yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:02.32.
Benjamin Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) got first place in the 150 Yard Butterfly, recording a time of 1:32.46. Nick Trabucco (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs) came first in the 150 Yard Backstroke, earning a time of 1:35.00.
The Lions began the meet when the foursome of Nguyen, Edem Egbarin-Aho (Silver Spring, MD/Wheaton), Sun, and Trabucco combined for a time of 1:47.13 to win the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Penn State Altoona closed the meet by claiming victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which Johnathan Bandy (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys), Traggiai, Rocco Solimeo (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt), and Adam Dotts totaled a time of 1:31.09.
Now, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team will pause its schedule until next semester. The Lions' next meet is also at home, when the squad will host Division II opponent Lock Haven University on Friday, January 17, for an exhibition meet starting at 6 p.m.
