Men’s Swimming Holds Second Place at Day One of AMCC Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team opened this week's four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Wednesday night at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center, ending the evening's finals sessions in second place in the conference with a total of 64 points.

AMCC foe Penn State Behrend ended Wednesday in first place in the joint AMCC-SUNYAC meet standings with a team score of 104 points. Penn State Altoona was second in the AMCC and sixth in the overall meet, finishing the day ahead of conference opponents Alfred State College, which was third in the AMCC and seventh overall with 48 points, and Pitt-Bradford, which was fourth in the AMCC and eighth overall with 38 points.

Wednesday night's finals session consisted of two relay events: the 200 Yard Medley Relay and 800 Yard Freestyle Relay.

Penn State Altoona had a runner-up finish in the 'A' final of the 200 Yard Medley Relay, in which the team of Eugene Heyman (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs), Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Hunter McMullen (Colver, PA/Central Cambria), and Rocco Solimeo (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) combined for a time of 1:34.73 to place second in the AMCC and fourth in the overall standings. That time also set a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming record for that event, breaking the previous record time of 1:36.08, which was set by that same group in last season's AMCC Championships.

In the 'B' final of the 200 Yard Medley Relay, Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township), Benjamin Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Lincoln Johnson (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown), and Johnathan Bandy (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys) came together for a time of 1:42.11 and took sixth place in the AMCC.

The Lions sealed another second-place finish in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay 'A' final, where the squad of Caden Traggiai (Sarver, PA/Knoch), Adam Dotts, Solimeo, and Nick Trabucco (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs) finished with a total time of 7:12.84 to clinch AMCC runner-up status and take sixth place overall. Meanwhile, in the 'B' cut, the team of Nguyen, Andrew Miller (Easton, PA/Easton), Joseph Fazio (Conshohocken, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh), and Nicolas Louis (Queens, NY/Rabun Gap Naccochee) had a combined time of 7:43.00 to come in sixth place in the AMCC.
