Men’s Tennis Edged 6-3 by Bearcats

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis had its season-opening three-match winning streak halted on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions were defeated 6-3 by non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College at the Gorilla House Gym.

Penn State Altoona (3-1) salvaged one point out of three doubles matches. The tandem of Jake Colledge (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Parag Dharbhamulla (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) sailed to an 8-1 win in No. 1 doubles, but the Lions suffered defeats in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots.

St. Vincent (4-6) went on to win four out of six singles matches, many of which were tightly-contested, to pull out a victory on the day. Penn State Altoona picked up two wins in singles, as Thomas Graden (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) defeated his opponent 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 3 spot and Jonathan D'Arcy (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) prevailed 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 match.

Penn State Altoona wraps up its run of three matches in three days tomorrow, Sunday, March 25, when the Lions will hit the road to Erie, Pa. to take on Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend. That match is slated to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
