Men’s Tennis Glides to 6-1 Win at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team got back in the win column Friday night, when the Lions hit the road for a 6-1 victory over non-conference opponent Lycoming College at Brandon Park.

Penn State Altoona (7-2) won two out of three in doubles to score the first point of the match, and the Lions proceeded to defeat Lycoming (0-11) in five out of six singles matches to cruise to a five-point victory.

In the No. 1 doubles match, the team of Nick Beard (Manns Choice, PA/Bedford)/Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) picked up their second win of the season with a 6-1 triumph. Andrew Chronister (York, PA/Dallastown)/Gabriel Lopez (Wilmette, IL/New Trier Township) followed with a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 match for their first win together.

Penn State Altoona continued to rack up wins in singles. In the No. 1 spot, Hess posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory for his sixth win of the season, and Chronister boosted his record to 7-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over his opponent at No. 2. Beard followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles for his seventh victory of the season, and Kadyn Carey (Altoona, PA/Altoona) prevailed 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 in the No. 5 slot for his third win. Wilhelm Grot (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) had the match-clinching win with his 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 6, which was his sixth victory of the year.

Penn State Altoona returns to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play next, as the Lions will travel to Greensburg to face conference foe Pitt-Greensburg in a doubleheader this Sunday, April 6. Start time of match one is set for 11 a.m.
