Bio

Bob Kasun was announced as the head coach of Penn State Altoona's men's and women's volleyball programs on December 8, 2023.

In his role of volleyball coach, Kasun oversees the recruiting, scheduling, and player development for both the men’s and women’s volleyball teams. He served as the interim men’s volleyball coach at Penn State Altoona in 2023, his first year with the program.

Prior to his time at Penn State Altoona, Kasun experienced success coaching in high school, building the Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic girls’ and boys’ volleyball programs into state-ranked programs.

While coaching Bishop Guilfoyle girls’ volleyball for 15 years, the program won two District 6, Class A championships along with four berths to the PIAA state championships. Twice BG advanced to the PIAA state semifinals and once to the state quarterfinals. BG won the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference championship twice, and Kasun was named LHAC coach of the year in both of those years.

As the boys’ volleyball coach for seven years, BG captured the school’s first two District 6 championships in school history.

Kasun and Ken Streilein co-founded the Horseshoe Volleyball Club, which created playing opportunities in local, state, and national competitions for hundreds of volleyball players in central Pennsylvania. He also served as the Western Pa. AAU volleyball director for four years.

Kasun was also an official and line judge for the PIAA for high school matches and the Professional Association of Volleyball Officials for college matches.

Kasun and his wife Joann currently reside in Altoona. They have three grown children: Ben, Rebecca, and Emily.
