Virtual Senior Day: Softball

Virtual Senior Day: Softball

The fourth and final installment of our "Virtual Senior Day" series highlights the Penn State Altoona softball team. Like the baseball team, softball had its season cut short during its Florida trip. While competing in The Spring Games in central Florida, the Lady Lions' season was ended after just 10 games due to the nationwide spread of COVID-19.

Today, Saturday, April 25, would have been the date of the softball team's final regular season home doubleheader, when the program would have held its Senior Day ceremony. For that, we are using this edition of our "Virtual Senior Day" series to recognize the two Penn State Altoona softball seniors, Abby Showers (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) and Jenna Myers (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley).

#5 Abby Showers

Third Base                  Philipsburg, Pa.

Senior third baseman Abby Showers has been a four-year member of the Penn State Altoona softball program. In her collegiate career, she has played in 122 games, starting all of them.

Showers' name is littered throughout the Lady Lions' all-time records. In the team's career record books, she ranks second all-time in stolen bases (35) and assists (279), tied for third in times hit by pitch (9), sixth in double plays turned (14), seventh in hits (141) and stolen base percentage (.854), eighth in batting average (.355) and at bats (397), tied for eighth in doubles (26), ninth in games played (122), games started (122), and runs scored (77), 10th in total bases (173), and tied for 10th in walks (27).

Showers was a three-time All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference selection, as she was voted first team All-Conference in 2017 while being a second team All-AMCC pick in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. She was also selected to the honorable mention category on the All-Eastern Athletic Conference Division III softball team in 2019.

Showers is the daughter of Stephanie and John Showers. She is a native of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania and graduated from Philipsburg-Osceola High School. At Penn State Altoona, Showers will graduate with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies.
