Fisher, Nau Sweep AMCC Softball Weekly Awards

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona softball swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's weekly awards on Monday, when senior middle infielder Alyssa Fisher (Lock Haven, PA/Central Mountain) was named the league's Player of the Week and sophomore right-handed pitcher Josselyn Nau (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) was selected its Pitcher of the Week.

Fisher and Nau helped lead the Lions through their first two days in the Myrtle Beach-area Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, as Penn State Altoona faced Baruch College, Kenyon College, Gwynedd Mercy University, and New Jersey City University.

In the Lions' first game of the trip against Baruch, on Saturday, March 8, Fisher went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, a stolen base, and a walk. Later that day, against Kenyon, she finished 1-for-4 at the plate. On Sunday, March 9, in Penn State Altoona's opening game of the day against Gwynedd Mercy, Fisher was 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run, three runs batted in, and a run scored. Later on Sunday, when the Lions faced New Jersey City, the senior hit 1-for-4.

Against Baruch, Nau tossed a complete game shutout to pick up her first win of the season, going all seven frames, allowing only six hits and a walk, and striking out eight batters. The right-hander registered her second win in another complete game shutout effort against Gwynedd Mercy, when she tossed all five innings, yielded only four hits while walking none, and had four strikeouts.

On the week, Fisher combined to hit .429 (6-for-14) with a home run, a double, three RBI, three runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base. Nau pitched 12 scoreless innings across her two starts in the pitching circle, going 2-0 with 12 strikeouts and allowing 10 hits and only one walk.

Penn State Altoona is 2-4 overall this season. The Lions' next games in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic are Wednesday, March 12, when the team will take on Centenary University at 1 p.m. and King's College at 3 p.m. at the Central Park Complex in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
