ALTOONA, Pa. – By the conclusion of the third and final day of this weekend's Saint Francis University Red Flash Invitational on Sunday at Holiday Bowl, the Penn State Altoona women's bowling team found itself in ninth place in the team standings.

Following the traditional three-day tournament format, Sunday's matches were organized into seeded bracket play and were competed as a trio of best-of-seven baker matches.

Penn State Altoona's first and third matches of the day were byes, with the Lady Lions rolling four games in each bye. In the first bye, Penn State Altoona totaled 470 pins. In the team's second bye, which occurred in the third game slot, the Lady Lions dropped 450 pins.

In the second best-of-seven baker match of the day, Penn State Altoona went up against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche University for the fifth time this season. The Lady Lions took the match to six games, ultimately suffering a 4-2 loss to their conference opponent.

La Roche opened the match with a 135-120 victory in the first game, but Penn State Altoona evened the match score at 1-1 with a 123-114 win in the second game. The back-and-forth match continued in games three and four, with the Lady Redhawks prevailing 153-121 in the third game and the Lady Lions answering with their best performance of the day in the fourth game, a 163-126 win. However, La Roche secured the match win by taking games five and six by scores of 155-114 and 143-126.

La Roche totaled 826 pins in the six-game match, while Penn State Altoona dropped 767 pins as a team.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's bowling will prepare for its first conference event of the season, as the Lady Lions will compete in AMCC Round Robin #1 on Saturday, February 1 and Sunday, February 2. Both days are hosted by Penn State Behrend.

That weekend's round robin is the first of two AMCC regular season events that match all of the conference teams head-to-head to determine seeding for the season-ending conference championships, which will happen March 20-22.
