Women’s Bowling Starts First AMCC Round Robin Weekend

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's bowling opened competition in day one of the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Round Robin weekend of the season on Saturday at Eastland Bowl.

Competing this weekend in five-game baker matches decided by total pinfall, the Lady Lions suffered five losses on Saturday in their first regular season conference action of the 2019-20 season. Penn State Altoona lost to D'Youville College (790-525), Medaille College (822-589), Pitt-Bradford (634-594), Penn State Behrend (793-563), and New Jersey City University (712-612).

Penn State Altoona finished the day in 10th place in the standings with a combined pinfall of 2,883, averaging 115.3 pins per game as a team.

Saint Vincent College held down first place in the standings with 4,427 pins. Mount Aloysius College found itself in second place with 4,211 pins, and Medaille was third with 4,336 pins.

Penn State Altoona kicked off the day by facing D'Youville for the first time this season. The Lady Spartans won the pinfall battle in each of the five games, prevailing 156-99, 134-96, 148-112, 183-116, and 169-102.

Next, the Lady Lions took on another AMCC opponent for the first time this season, going up against Medaille. Medaille also bested Penn State Altoona in pinfall in each of the match's five games, winning by scores of 136-125, 147-137, 213-115, 159-110, 167-102.

In its third match of the day, Penn State Altoona faced Pitt-Bradford for the second time this year. The Lady Panthers edged Penn State Altoona 116-113 in the first game, but the Lady Lions had their best score of the day in the second game, beating Pitt-Bradford in pinfall by a score of 167-112. But Pitt-Bradford took the next three games by pinfall scores of 137-113, 165-111, and 104-90.

Penn State Altoona faced Penn State Behrend for the first time this season in match number four of the day. Behrend won the first four games by scores of 157-117, 177-93, 165-134, and 169-93. The Lady Lions topped Behrend 126-125 in the fifth game, but Behrend had the overall edge in pinfall to win the match.

The Lady Lions went up against New Jersey City University for the first time of the year in the day's fifth and final match. The teams split the first four games, with New Jersey City taking the first two games by scores of 141-92 and 193-97 and Penn State Altoona winning the next two 147-121 and 135-101. Despite the Lady Lions' wins, New Jersey City still had the overall edge in pins, and they added to their lead by taking the fifth game 156-141.

With an 0-5 start to AMCC play, the Penn State Altoona women's bowling team will look for their first conference win of the season in day two of this weekend's AMCC Round Robin tomorrow, Sunday, February 2. The day's action will start at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, and the Lady Lions will play four more five-game baker matches decided by pinfall.
