
Women’s Golf Debuts New Era at Grove City Invitational
GROVE CITY, Pa. – The new chapter of women's golf at Penn State Altoona began on Thursday afternoon, when the new Lions squad made its debut at the Grove City Fall Invitational at Grove City Country Club.
Women's golf was added back to Penn State Altoona's NCAA Division III sport offerings a year ago, and the new-look Lions program took the course for its first event on Thursday. In its first team round since 2007, Penn State Altoona shot 438 on the par 72 course to place 12th out of 12 teams.
Westminster College won the event with 326, the College of Wooster was second with 328, and Clarion University took third place with 351.
Senior Isabelle Forcey (Clearfield, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) and freshmen Alyssa Franks (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle), Lauren Thompson (Austin, TX/Anderson), and Sabella Wu (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) all made their collegiate golf debuts for Penn State Altoona, while sophomore Isabelle Dahl (Athens, PA/Athens) made her Lions debut after competing last season with Wilkes University.
Thompson was Penn State Altoona's top finisher, firing 85 to tie for 13th place out of 71 individuals in the tournament. Wu shot 112 to place 60th, and Dahl took 64th place with her 117.
Forcey and Franks rounded out the Lions' lineup, with Forcey shooting 124 and Franks carding 141.
Next up, Penn State Altoona women's golf will host its first event of the 2024-25 season on Saturday, October 5, at its home course, Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona. The Lions will host a field of teams for the Penn State Altoona Invitational, which will also double as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Invitational. Tee times are scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
