
Men’s Wrestling Makes Home Debut, Falls to Fairmont State
ALTOONA, Pa. – The resurrected Penn State Altoona men's wrestling program hosted its first-ever NCAA home meet on Friday afternoon, and the Lions suffered a 42-10 loss to Division II opponent Fairmont State University in a dual at Adler Arena.
Evan Davis (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) and Andrew Weaver (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) posted wins for Penn State Altoona, which was competing in its first event of the spring semester.
Davis opened the day with a victory at 125, getting a 6-0 win by fall over Fairmont State's Caden Delwarte.
The Fighting Falcons picked up six points in each of the next four weight classes, including winning 133, 141, and 157 by forfeit. In the 149 bout, the Lions' Remington Fleck (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) lost to Fairmont State's Austin High.
Following a double forfeit at 165, the Lions added to their point total in the 174 bout, where Weaver earned a major decision, 15-4, over Fairmont State's Navid Ighani to pick up four points and trim the visitors' lead to 24-10.
But the Fighting Falcons totaled 18 points across the next three weight classes. After Fairmont State picked up a forfeit win at 184, the visitors combined for 12 more points over the next two matches, as Brady Shehan (Altoona, PA/Altoona) lost at 197 and Jamell Locket (Palatine, IL/Wheeling) was defeated at 285.
Penn State Altoona men's wrestling returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, January 11, traveling to Pitt-Bradford to compete in a trio of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference duals beginning at 11 a.m. The Lions will face Pitt-Bradford to begin the event before taking on Alfred State College and Penn State Behrend.
