Lady Lions Swimming Edges Gallaudet in Home Finale

ALTOONA, Pa. – In its last home meet of the 2019-20 season on Friday evening, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team pulled out a 114-109 victory over non-conference opponent Gallaudet University in the Adler Natatorium.

The Lady Lions racked up a season-best 12 first place finishes to pick up their fourth dual meet win of the season. Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College), Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley), and Gillian Lowe (York, PA/Dallastown) led the way with three individual first place finishes each, and Kaitlin Heil (Pittsburgh, PA/CAPA) recorded two individual first places.

In her first individual swim of the meet, Dangelo set her fifth new Penn State Altoona women's swimming team record this season. In that event, the 100 Yard Backstroke, the freshman took first place with a time of 1:02.17, squeaking past the previous record of 1:02.34, which was set by former Lady Lion Brittany Karn.

Dangelo also posted wins in the 200 Yard Backstroke, during which she finished with a time of 2:13.92, and the 100 Yard Butterfly, in which she posted a time of 1:02.03.

Heisey prevailed in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, hitting the pad at 1:20.84. She later won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.22, and she clocked in at 2:37.99 to place first in the 200 Yard IM.

Lowe won the 200 Yard Freestyle, earning a time of 2:22.12. She also took first place in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:03.87, and she recorded her third victory of the night in the 500 Yard Freestyle, during which she compiled a time of 6:26.55.

Heil came in first place in the meet's first individual swim, the 1000 Yard Freestyle, by clocking in at 13:31.05. Later, she triumphed in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 3:09.71.

Penn State Altoona's other first place finish came in the first event of the meet, the 200 Yard Medley Relay. In that event, the foursome of Lowe, Heil, Dangelo, and Heisey combined to record a time of 2:06.96 to claim first place.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's swimming returns to the road on Saturday, January 25, when the Lady Lions will travel to face non-conference opponent Hood College in a dual meet beginning at 2:00 p.m.
