Lady Lions Finish Regular Season With Losses to Hood, Bryn Mawr

FREDERICK, Md. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team wrapped up its 2019-20 regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon with a tri-meet at Hood College's Huntsinger Aquatics Center, suffering a pair of losses to non-conference opponents.

The Lady Lions fell 152-62 to host school Hood, and they also lost 182-61 to Bryn Mawr College.

Penn State Altoona netted three first place finishes in the meet, with all of them coming courtesy of Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College). One of her first place times set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming record, her sixth new team record set this season.

Dangelo won the first individual swim of the women's meet, the 400 Yard IM, by clocking in at 4:46.32. Several events later, she placed first in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:00.66. Dangelo's new team record came in the 50 Yard Butterfly, in which she recorded a time of 27.46 to come in first place. Her time bested the previous record of 28.19, set by former swimmer Ashley Nero on February 12, 2015.

Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) recorded a second place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 59.35, just 0.20 seconds behind the winner.

Penn State Altoona picked up third place points in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which Heisey, Dangelo, Gillian Lowe (York, PA/Dallastown), and Kaitlin Heil (Pittsburgh, PA/CAPA) combined for a time of 1:51.98.

Heil also came in third place in an individual event, taking the third spot in the standings in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 28.97. Lowe took a fourth place finish in the 50 Yard Backstroke by posting a time of 34.82, and Heisey was also a fourth place finisher in the 50 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 35.90.

With the regular season now behind it, Penn State Altoona women's swimming will prepare for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, which will occur February 19-22 at Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, N.Y.
