Women’s Swimming Ranks Fourth After Day One at AMCCs

WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team found itself in fourth place by the conclusion of day one of the four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Wednesday evening at the Webster Aquatic Center.

The Lady Lions compiled a team score of 85 points, ranking ahead of fifth place SUNY Delhi and its 68 points, as well as sixth place Pitt-Bradford and its five points.

Penn State Behrend currently holds the top spot with 157 points. Alfred State College is second with 93 points, and Franciscan University is third with 90 points.

Highlighting Penn State Altoona's showing on Wednesday were record-breaking performances by Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) and Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley).

Dangelo qualified for the championship final in the 200 Yard IM, in which she took third place by clocking in at 2:11.92. That time set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming record for that event, surpassing the previous mark of 2:12.32 that Dangelo herself set this past November 23.

Heisey qualified for the championship final in the 50 Yard Freestyle, earning third place with a time of 24.83. That time set a new Lady Lions swimming record in the 50 Yard Freestyle, supplanting former swimmer Brittany Karn's mark of 25.69.

In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Kaitlin Heil (Pittsburgh, PA/CAPA) competed in the 'C' final, taking seventh place in that session and 23rd overall by posting a time of 6:16.50.

Gillian Lowe (York, PA/Dallastown) joined Heisey in the 50 Yard Freestyle, with Lowe taking part in the 'C' final. Lowe came in fourth in the 'C' cut and took 20th overall with a time of 27.38.

In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, Lowe, Heisey, Dangelo, and Heil came together to post a combined time of 2:01.79, earning seventh place out of 16 competing squads.
