Women’s Swimming Closes Fall Semester with Win at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – In its final intercollegiate event of the fall semester, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team earned a 132-72 victory over non-conference opponent Lycoming College on Friday evening in the Lamade Natatorium.

The Lions recorded eight first-place finishes during the meet to pick up their second dual meet victory of the season. Penn State Altoona won both of the meet's relay events, while five different swimmers combined for six individual wins.

Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) led the Lions with a pair of first places in individual swims. In the 200 Yard Freestyle, she took first place with a time of 2:07.18, edging the second-place finisher by 0.30 seconds. Petry's second win of the night came in the 100 Yard Backstroke, in which she finished in 1:07.68 to take first place.

McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) prevailed in the 50 Yard Backstroke after clocking in at 30.39. Ayva Harris (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) took first in the 50 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 35.00.

Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax) won the 100 Yard Butterfly in 1:06.93, and Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) took first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:19.09.

Penn State Altoona opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, during which Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona), Harris, Sponsler, and Holl combined for a time of 2:03.04 to finish atop the standings.

The Lions closed the meet by winning the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, as the team of Petry, Fraundorfer, Ava Monborne (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria), and Coleman totaled a time of 1:49.77 to take first place.

The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team will now head into winter break, and the squad's next meet is scheduled for Saturday, January 13, when the Lions will travel to take on Division II opponent Lock Haven University at 1 p.m.
