Women’s Swimming Edges Lock Haven, 118-117

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team returned to action on Saturday afternoon for the first time this semester, and the Lions pulled out a 118-117 victory over Division II opponent Lock Haven University in the Zimmerli Pool.

Penn State Altoona totaled six first-place finishes as a team in the victory, which was the team's third dual meet win of the season. Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) and McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) led the way with two individual first places each, and Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) also had one individual win.

Coleman's first win of the day came in the 200 Yard Freestyle, during which she finished in 2:10.10 to seal up first place. She later triumphed in the 100 Yard Freestyle after posting a time of 59.37.

Holl notched her first victory in the 100 Yard Backstroke, earning a time of 1:06.26. Later in the meet, she prevailed in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:26.14.

Petry took first place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 12:18.73.

Penn State Altoona finished the day on a winning note, placing first in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay to eke past Lock Haven for the win. The foursome of Petry, Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona), Holl, and Coleman combined for a time of 1:49.44, beating the Lock Haven second-place team by just 0.34 seconds to take first place.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming returns to action next Saturday, January 20, traveling to take on Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford in a dual meet starting at 1 p.m. The Lions men's team, which swam on an exhibition status on Saturday at Lock Haven, will also return to action that day against Pitt-Bradford.
