Women’s Swimming Topples Pitt-Bradford with 129-43 Win

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team was in action for the second time this semester on Saturday afternoon, pulling out a strong 129-43 victory against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford in the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center.

Penn State Altoona totaled nine first-place finishes as a team in the victory, which was the team's fourth dual meet win of the season. Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) and Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) led the way with two individual first places each.

Petry's first win of the day came in the 200 Yard Freestyle, during which she finished in 2:08.86 to seal up first place. She later triumphed in the 100 Yard Freestyle after posting a time of 59.32.

Coleman's first win of the meet came in the 200 Yard IM, as she clocked in a time of 2:23.91. She later triumphed in the 500 Yard Freestyle after finishing with a time of 5:54.86.

Ava Monborne (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) notched a victory in the 50 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 27.80, while Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax) took first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly, earning a time of 1:08.10. McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) finished with a first-place victory in the 100 Yard Backstroke, clocking in at 1:06.74.

In the meet-opening 200 Yard Medley Relay, Penn State Altoona triumphed as the team of Katie Chen (Jacksonville, FL/Creekside), Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona), Ayva Harris (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) and Sponsler compiled a total time of 2:05.98 to take first place.

The Lions finished the day on a winning note, placing first in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay to secure the victory. The foursome of Coleman, Julia Daley (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy), Holl and Sponsler combined for a total time of 1:53.03 to beat the competition.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming returns to action next Friday, January 26 in a non-conference matchup against Lebanon Valley College starting at 6 p.m.
