Women’s Swimming Remains Third at Day Two of AMCCs

WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team continued to hold down third place out of five conference teams by the conclusion of day two at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center.

By the end of Thursday's finals session, Penn State Altoona had accumulated 185 points through two days, placing third and ranking ahead of AMCC opponents Pitt-Bradford (132.5 points) and Wells College (94 points). Penn State Behrend ascended into first place in the AMCC with 381.5 points, while Alfred State College was second with 332 points.

Nazareth College led all teams in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 meet with 408 points.

In the night's first event, the 500 Yard Freestyle, Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) finished fourth in the AMCC and eighth overall while competing in the 'A' final, recording a time of 5:30.17. Katie Chen (Jacksonville, FL/Creekside) qualified for the 'B' final, placing ninth in the AMCC by posting a time of 6:05.42.

Three different Penn State Altoona swimmers competed in the 'B' final for the next event, the 200 Yard IM. Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) led the way, placing second in the 'B' and fifth in the AMCC with a time of 2:20.76. Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was sixth in the AMCC with a time of 2:26.77, and Isabella Rhoades (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) finished in 2:34.06 to take 10th in the AMCC.

Next was the 50 Yard Freestyle, in which three more Lions swam in the 'B' final. McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) was fourth in the 'B' cut and 10th in the AMCC, recording a time of 26.24. Ava Monborne (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) followed with a time of 26.36 to take 12th in the AMCC, and Ayva Harris (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) took 14th in the conference by compiling a time of 27.33.

Thursday's last event was the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. In the 'A' final, the team of Holl, Petry, Monborne, and Coleman combined for a time of 1:43.53 to place third in the AMCC and fifth overall. The Lions also had a team compete in the 'B' final, where Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax), Harris, Chen, and Julia Daley (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) came together to record a time of 1:52.51 to take seventh in the conference.

Competition in the AMCC Championships resumes tomorrow, Friday, February 16, for day three of four. Friday night's finals will consist of the 400 Yard IM, 100 Yard Butterfly, 200 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Breaststroke, 100 Yard Backstroke, and 400 Yard Medley Relay.
