Women’s Swimming Finishes Day One of Malone Invite in Ninth Place

CANTON, Ohio – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team returned to action on Thursday, competing in day one of the Malone University Invitational at the Branin Natatorium.

At the conclusion of the first finals session of the three-day event, Penn State Altoona ranked in ninth place out of 15 teams with a total of 101 points.

The Lions opened Thursday evening's finals with a ninth-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which the team of Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona), McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights), and Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) combined for a time of 1:44.71.

Petry followed that up by taking 15th place in the 500 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 5:33.86 while competing in the 'B' final of that swim. Coleman swam the 'C' final of the 200 Yard IM, taking 18th place overall with a time of 2:21.74.

In the next event, the 50 Yard Freestyle, Holl qualified for the 'C' final and came in 23rd place with a time of 26.13.

The Lions finished the first finals session of the invitational by earning ninth place in the 400 Yard Medley Relay, as the foursome of Holl, Ayva Harris (Monroeville, PA/Gateway), Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax), and Coleman posted a total time of 4:22.31.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming gets back in the pool tomorrow, Friday, November 22, for day two of the Malone Invitational. The day's preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with the next finals session set for 6:30 p.m.
