
Women’s Swimming in 12th Place Through Two Days at Malone Invite
CANTON, Ohio – After day two of the Malone University Invitational on Friday, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team found itself in 12th place out of 16 teams.
The Lions added 98 points to their team total in Friday night's finals session in the Branin Natatorium, finishing the day with 199 points. Division II Gannon University held the top spot on the team leaderboard with 1,120 points, while Oberlin College was in second place with 654 points.
Penn State Altoona began Friday's finals by coming in 11th place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, in which the team of McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Hailey Toth (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua), Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax), and Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona) combined for a time of 1:58.15.
The 200 Yard Freestyle was the next event, and Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) qualified to compete in the 'B' final, placing 13th overall with a time of 2:02.45.
Two Lion swimmers made the 'B' final in the 400 Yard IM, as Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) placed 10th overall with a time of 5:06.43 and Alexis Buchala (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua) took 12th place after clocking in at 5:17.14.
One event later, Penn State Altoona had a pair compete in the 'C' final of the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Toth won the 'C' cut and took 17th place overall, finishing in 1:13.50, while teammate Ayva Harris (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) came in right behind her with a time of 1:14.53 to nab 18th place.
Holl and Julia Daley (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) swam in the 'C' final of the next event, the 100 Yard Backstroke. Holl was 22nd place overall with a time of 1:05.76, while Daley came in 24th after finishing in 1:05.92.
Penn State Altoona women's swimming heads into the third and final day of the Malone Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, November 23. The last day's round of preliminaries is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., with the finals session set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
