
Women’s Swimming Splits Tri-Meet at Juniata
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team competed in its second meet of the weekend on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions faced off against non-conference foes Juniata College and Elizabethtown College in a tri-meet at Juniata's Binder Natatorium.
Penn State Altoona split the meet, defeating Juniata 148-92 and losing to Elizabethtown 153-85. The Lions' day was highlighted by one first place and seven runner-up finishes.
Penn State Altoona achieved its lone win of the meet in the first event, the 200 Meter Medley Relay, when the team of Julia Daley (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy), Hailey Toth (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua), Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone), and Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona) combined for a time of 2:15.29.
The Lions took second place in the meet's other relay event, the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay, where Fraundorfer, Claire Smith (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley), Daley, and McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) posted a total time of 2:01.72.
Individually, Coleman led the Lions with a trio of second places. In the 200 Meter Freestyle, she finished in 2:21.13 to rank second in the standings. Several events later, Coleman came in second during the 100 Meter Freestyle with a time of 1:04.93. Her third runner-up finish came in the 200 Meter IM after she clocked in at 2:41.99.
Meanwhile, Holl had a pair of individual second-place finishes, finishing as the runner-up in the 50 Meter Backstroke with a time of 34.46 and placing second in the 100 Meter Backstroke after recording a time of 1:14.75.
Additionally, Fraundorfer earned a second place in the 100 Meter Butterfly after she finished with a time of 1:18.49.
The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team will finish its regular season schedule at home next Saturday, February 1, welcoming Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford to campus for a 1 p.m. dual meet. Prior to the meet, the Lions will hold their Senior Day ceremony to honor their four senior swimmers: Madison Coleman, McKenna Holl, Sarah Petry, and Hailey Toth.
