
Women’s Swimming Holds Third at AMCC Championships
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team was back in the pool on Thursday to compete in day two of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center.
By the conclusion of Thursday night's finals session, Penn State Altoona remained in third place out of four AMCC teams with a score of 97 points.
SUNY-Cortland was the overall first place team in the joint AMCC-SUNYAC meet, totaling 346 points. Penn State Behrend was second overall and the top AMCC team with 238 points. AMCC school Alfred State College was third overall and second in the AMCC with 214 points, and Pitt-Bradford was fourth in the AMCC and ninth overall with 63 points.
Thursday's finals began with the 500 Yard Freestyle, in which Alexis Buchala (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua) competed in the 'B' final, taking 15th place overall and sixth in the AMCC with a time of 5:37.69.
Next was the 200 Yard IM, where Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) grabbed a fourth-place AMCC finish and 13th place overall finish, after totaling a time of 2:22.11 while competing in the 'B' final.
In the next swim, the 50 Yard Freestyle, McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) qualified for the 'B' final and finished in 25.48, taking sixth in the AMCC and 12th place in the overall standings.
Penn State Altoona wrapped up Thursday's finals in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, where the team of Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona), Holl, Julia Daley (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy), and Coleman combined for a time of 1:44.57 to earn a third-place AMCC finish and place sixth overall.
Day three of the AMCC Championships is tomorrow, Friday, February 21, with another round of preliminaries starting at 10 a.m., followed by the day's finals at 5:30 p.m. Friday night's finals will feature the 400 Yard IM, 100 Yard Butterfly, 200 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Breaststroke, 100 Yard Backstroke, and 400 Yard Medley Relay.
