Women’s Tennis Falls 8-1 to Medaille in Season Opener

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team opened its 2021 schedule on Saturday afternoon at the Gorilla House Gym, losing 8-1 to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Medaille College.

Medaille (1-1, 1-1 AMCC) built an early 3-0 lead, sweeping the opening trio of doubles matches to establish an advantage.

Penn State Altoona (0-1, 0-1 AMCC) got on the scoreboard in the No. 1 singles match, in which Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona) prevailed 6-0, 6-1. However, Medaille won the other five singles matches to earn a seven-point victory on the day.

Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) and Jenna Bartlett (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) battled in their singles matches for the Lady Lions, but ultimately came out on the losing end. Acker fell in a hard-fought No. 2 singles match, as she was edged 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), and Bartlett was topped 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in her No. 5 singles match.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis gets right back to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 7, traveling to face AMCC opponent Mount Aloysius College at 2:00 p.m. at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.
