Women’s Tennis Defeated in AMCC Semifinal Match

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team's 2021 spring season came to an end on Saturday evening, when the Lions were defeated 5-1 by Penn State Behrend in the semifinal round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament at Westwood Racquet Club.

Penn State Altoona (2-4), the third seed in the tournament, found itself in an early hole after doubles play, trailing 2-1. Second seed Penn State Behrend (5-2) went on to record three singles wins, ending the match in its favor once it reached the decisive fifth point.

While Behrend held a lead following wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, Penn State Altoona salvaged a point by picking up a victory in the No. 1 match, where the tandem of Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) earned an 8-4 decision over their opponents.

The win by Stevens and Acker was their team-leading fourth together, as the duo improved to 4-0 in No. 1 doubles matches this season.

However, Behrend clinched the match win by reeling off three straight victories in the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 singles matches. The No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 singles matches went unfinished when the overall match reached its decision.

At the conclusion of the match, Stevens was named to the AMCC All-Tournament team for her performance.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis finishes its season with a 2-4 overall record, including going 2-3 in the AMCC during the regular season.
