Women’s Tennis Drops Match at DII Lock Haven
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team took a 7-2 loss on Sunday afternoon from Division II foe Lock Haven University.
Lock Haven (4-0) won all three doubles matches, taking the first two by scores of 8-3 and 8-1 and receiving a point via forfeit in the No. 3 match.
The home team proceeded to win four out of six in singles play to win the overall match by five points.
Penn State Altoona (5-4) salvaged points in singles with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. In the top spot, Mikhaela Merca (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2 for her sixth win of the season, tying for the team lead in singles victories. In the No. 3 match, Rachel Stricek (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) earned a 6-3, 6-1 decision over her opponent for her fifth win of the season.
Penn State Altoona women's tennis returns to action on Saturday, October 7 with another non-conference match on the road, as the Lions will travel to Williamsport to face Penn College at 1 p.m.
