Women’s Tennis Falls in AMCC Semifinal Match

WEXFORD, Pa. – The #3 seed Penn State Altoona women's tennis team suffered a 5-0 loss to #2 seed Penn State Behrend on Saturday in a semifinal round match in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament at Oxford Athletic Club.

Behrend (8-3) started the match by getting all three points in doubles, winning the first two matches by scores of 8-4 and 8-5 and taking the third match via forfeit. Behrend then earned two points in singles with wins in the No. 4 and No. 5 matches, and the overall match ended once a decision was reached.

With the loss, Penn State Altoona (6-6) is eliminated from the postseason, while Behrend moves on to the championship match tomorrow, Sunday, October 15, against top seed Pitt-Greensburg.

Sophomore Rachel Stricek (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) was named to the AMCC All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the match. Stricek won the opening set of her No. 3 singles match, 7-5, and was trailing 1-0 in the second set before the match was called when Behrend achieved its fifth point of the day.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis is scheduled for more intercollegiate competition during the spring semester. The team currently has one match scheduled in the spring, an April 1 tilt on the road against non-conference opponent Hood College. Additional non-conference matches are expected to be added to the Lions' spring schedule.
