Presidents Hand Lions First Loss

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday night, when the Lions were defeated 6-1 by non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.

Playing in its first road match of the 2024 season, Penn State Altoona (2-1) fell into an early hole when W&J (1-0) took two out of three in doubles play to pick up the match's opening point. The Presidents posted wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, while the Lions' duo of Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area)/Daniel Fulton (Milford, DE/Milford) prevailed 6-2 in the No. 3 doubles match to improve to 3-0 together this season.

W&J proceeded to win five out of six in the singles portion of the evening to post a five-point match win over Penn State Altoona. Colaianni accounted for the Lions' lone point in the No. 6 singles match, where she pulled out a tiebreak win to defeat her opponent 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 10-8 and boost her season record to 3-0.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis returns to Ivyside to face another Presidents' Athletic Conference team this Sunday, September 8, at 1 p.m., when the Lions will host Saint Vincent College at the Adler Tennis Courts.
