Warriors Edge Lions, 4-3

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team returned to campus for a home match on Thursday afternoon, and the Lions suffered a tight 4-3 loss to non-conference opponent Lycoming College at the Adler Tennis Courts.

Lycoming (4-0) won the first point of the day by prevailing in two out of three doubles matches, and the Warriors did enough in singles play to win by one, splitting singles play 3-3 with Penn State Altoona (3-4).

The Lions picked up their lone doubles win in the No. 3 spot, where the duo of Daniel Fulton (Milford, DE/Milford)/Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area) played to a 6-1 decision over their opponents, wrapping up their team-best fifth win of the season together.

In singles, the Lions posted wins in the No. 2, 5, and 6 spots to add three more points to their team total. Rachel Stricek (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) won 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 match for her fifth victory of the season, Fulton earned victory number four in the No. 5 match with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) triumph, and Colaianni nabbed a team-high sixth win at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Next up, the Penn State Altoona women's tennis team will return to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play, as the Lions will make the short trek into Cambria County this Sunday, September 22, to take on Mount Aloysius College at 1 p.m.
