Women’s Tennis Defeats Mounties for Second AMCC Win
CRESSON, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team earned its second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, when the Lions topped nearby conference foe Mount Aloysius College 5-2 at the Walker Athletic Complex.
Penn State Altoona (4-4, 2-1 AMCC) swept doubles play to take the first point of the match, then took four of six in singles to defeat Mount Aloysius (1-3, 1-1 AMCC) by three points.
In doubles, the team of Caitlin Blessel (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys)/Rachel Stricek (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) prevailed 6-4 in the No. 1 spot for their first victory of the season together. In the No. 2 match, Sienna Fell (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan)/Abigail Morgan (Orrville, OH/Orrville) also recorded their first win of the season with a 6-4 decision. The duo of Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area)/Casey Burinskas (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) posted a 6-1 win in the No. 3 doubles match for their first win together, as well as Burinskas' first collegiate doubles victory.
In singles, Stricek nabbed her sixth win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph in the No. 2 match, and Morgan secured her fourth victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4. Daniel Fulton (Milford, DE/Milford) prevailed 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles match for their fifth win of the fall, and Colaianni clinched a team-leading seventh singles win with a 6-3, 6-1 decision in the No. 6 spot.
Penn State Altoona women's tennis plays another AMCC match on the road this Thursday, September 26, traveling to Pittsburgh to face La Roche University. That match is slated for a 7 p.m. start at Alpha Tennis Club.
