Women’s Tennis Tops La Roche 5-1
PITTSBURGH – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team notched its third Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the season on Thursday night, when the Lions posted a 5-1 victory over conference foe La Roche University at the Alpha Tennis Club.
Penn State Altoona (5-4, 3-1 AMCC) took two out of three in doubles to win the match's first point, then won four singles matches to defeat La Roche (0-7, 0-3 AMCC) by a final score of 5-1. The No. 1 singles match was unfinished due to court time limitations at the hosting facility.
La Roche won the No. 1 doubles match, but Penn State Altoona secured the evening's first point by winning in No. 2 and No. 3. In the No. 2 spot, the tandem of Sienna Fell (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan)/Abigail Morgan (Orrville, OH/Orville) prevailed 6-0 for their second win together this season. At No. 3 doubles, the team of Casey Burinskas (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy)/Chelsea Napper (Highlands Ranch, CO/Highlands Ranch) earned a 6-0 victory for their first win, including Napper's first collegiate doubles victory.
In singles, Burinskas earned a tiebreak win over her opponent in the No. 3 position, where she prevailed 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 for her first collegiate singles win. Daniel Fulton (Milford, DE/Milford), Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area), and Mara Del Valle (Colombia/Walt Whitman) each whitewashed their opponents by scores of 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4, 5, and 6 spots, respectively. It marked the eighth overall singles win for Colaianni, the sixth for Fulton, and first collegiate for Del Valle.
Penn State Altoona women's tennis dips back into non-conference play for its next match, as the Lions will travel to Beaver Falls, Pa. to face Geneva College this Saturday, September 28, at 1 p.m.
