Women’s Tennis Falls in AMCC Postseason Match

WEXFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team was eliminated from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament on Saturday evening, when the No. 3 seed Lions suffered a 4-1 loss to No. 2 seed Penn State Behrend in a semifinal-round match at Oxford Athletic Club.

Behrend (8-3) posted a pair of 6-1 wins in the top two doubles flights to record the opening point of the match, then had wins in No. 1, 2, and 4 singles to reach four points, clinching a victory. With its loss, Penn State Altoona (7-10) is eliminated from the conference tournament.

Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area) accounted for the lone point of the match for Penn State Altoona, as she recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory in her No. 5 singles match. The win was her team-leading 11th of the season.

Saturday's match concludes the fall season for Penn State Altoona women's tennis, but the Lions are slated to return to regular-season action in the spring semester, when the team is expected to compete in a handful of matches. The Lions' next scheduled match is at home against non-conference foe Juniata College on Wednesday, March 5.
