Bio

Mark Sapita is the head coach of the Penn State Altoona women’s tennis team, after being named to the role in August 2023.

Sapita spent 15 years as the assistant tennis coach at Altoona Area High School under then-head coach Eric Hovan, who now leads the Division I Saint Francis University (Pa.) tennis program. Sapita was part of an Altoona program that recorded over 400 victories, earned 10 district championships, and produced 45 individual district champions, including former Division I Rutgers University player Caitlin Baker. During Sapita’s tenure at Altoona, he assisted in managing rosters of 50 girls and 40 boys.

Sapita earned his undergraduate degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and obtained a Master’s degree from Marshall University.
