Pitt-Greensburg Scores Late to Get Past Lions

ALTOONA, Pa. – A late goal sunk the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team on Wednesday night at Spring Run Stadium, as visiting Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg defeated the Lions 1-0.

In a scoreless game, Pitt-Greensburg (3-8-1, 2-1 AMCC) put the first goal on the board in the 84th minute and held on to hand Penn State Altoona (1-7, 0-3 AMCC) a tough shutout loss.

Sasha Mohoruk (State College, PA/State College) made five saves at goalkeeper for Penn State Altoona in his eighth start of the season.

Matias Harte (State College, PA/State College) and Bailey Musselman (Altoona, PA/Altoona) each finished with one shot on goal for the Lions. Harte and Colin Murphy (State College, PA/State College) tied for the team lead in shots attempted with two apiece.

The game was scoreless at the conclusion of a quiet first half that saw just two shots on goal, both for visiting Pitt-Greensburg. The Bobcats finished the period with a 6-3 advantage over the Lions in shot attempts.

The score remained tied at zero throughout the second half until the 84th minute, when a Pitt-Greensburg corner kick resulted in the game's only goal. Leyton Takac sent a corner into the box, and it deflected to Lucas Killen, who tapped a shot into the open net at 83:47 to give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage.

The visitors' lead held up for the remaining 6:13, and Pitt-Greensburg escaped with a narrow victory.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's soccer travels to Hamburg, N.Y. to continue its AMCC schedule against Hilbert College this Saturday, October 12, at 2 p.m.
