Women’s Soccer Survives Wildcats for 0-0 Draw
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team dodged multiple scoring chances by visiting Penn College on Friday evening, as the Lions held on to finish with a 0-0 tie in their season opener at Spring Run Stadium.
Penn College (0-0-1) posted a dominant 28-1 advantage in shot attempts, including a 9-1 lead in shots on goal. But Penn State Altoona (0-0-1) survived the Wildcats' attack all night long to preserve the scoreless tie.
Penn State Altoona's Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) stopped nine shots between the pipes to record her seventh career shutout. Rachel Rutkowski (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) tallied the Lions' lone shot on goal.
Penn College outshot Penn State Altoona 13-0 in the first half, during which Baustert made six saves. The Wildcats continued their push in the offensive end during the second half, outshooting the Lions 15-1. But Baustert made three more saves, while the home team's defensive effort helped keep the visitors off the scoreboard.
Next up, Penn State Altoona women's soccer will travel for its first road contest of the season this Sunday, September 1, when the Lions head west to face Bethany College at 1 p.m.
