Women’s Soccer Drops Road Tilt with Bethany
by Casey Burinskas
BETHANY, W.Va. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer was able to find the back of the net for the first time this season in their game against Bethany College on Sunday, but the Lions were ultimately unable to pull out the win, falling 3-1 to the Bison when Bethany pulled ahead late.
Taylor Frederick (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) scored her first collegiate goal for the Lions (0-1-1), a score that managed to put her team on the board and tie the game 1-1 late in the second half. But the tie game did not last for long, as goals from Bethany's (1-0) Monica Bird and Avallina Aurilio quickly followed to help the Bison reclaim the lead.
Frederick also had a game-high five shots attempted, with three coming on goal. Bella Marinelli (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) also had a shot on goal for the Lions.
Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) got the start at goalkeeper for Penn State Altoona and recorded 10 saves.
After a scoreless first half, Bethany was first to score in the second half when Brionna Bash landed the ball in the net at 55:03.
Altoona responded with a goal from Frederick, who found the back of the net 79:36 to even the score at 1-1.
But Bethany came on strong after that, as goals from Bird and Aurilio within the final five minutes of the game led the Bison to victory over the Lions.
Next up, the women's soccer team will travel to take on Juniata College on Wednesday, September 4 for a game under the lights at 7:30 p.m.
