Women’s Soccer Bested by Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer hit the road to take on non-conference opponent Juniata College on Wednesday night, and the Lions were defeated 2-0 by the Eagles at Gibbel Stadium.

Juniata (1-1-1) scored early in the first half on a goal from Amelia Yordy, and the Eagles tacked on an insurance tally with a second-half goal from Savanna Murray. The home team ran up a 22-3 advantage in shot attempts.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) made her third start of the season at goalkeeper for Penn State Altoona (0-2-1) and recorded eight saves. Sophia Nelson (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis), Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte), and Jordan Yaletsko (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Academy Charter) each had shot attempts for the Lions, with Smith and Yaletsko's shots coming on goal.

Juniata scored the game's first goal in the fourth minute, when Yordy scored at the 3:20 mark. The Eagles kept their 1-0 lead until the early stages of the second half, when Murray's goal at 52:41 boosted the home team's advantage to 2-0.

Penn State Altoona returns to the road for its next game, as the Lions will travel to New York state to face non-conference opponent Alfred University this Saturday, September 7, at 6 p.m.
