Women’s Soccer Blanked by Alfred
ALFRED, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team took a lopsided loss on Saturday evening, when the Lions were defeated 8-0 by non-conference opponent Alfred University at Yunevich Stadium.
Alfred (3-0) got goals from seven different players and stormed out to a 6-0 lead by halftime. The Saxons posted a 21-9 advantage over Penn State Altoona (0-3-1) in shots, as well as a 7-3 lead in corner kicks.
Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) got the start at goalkeeper for the Lions and made three saves while working the first half. Nicole Schwartz (Clifton, NJ/Passaic County Technical Institute) made her first appearance of the season between the pipes when she took over for the second half.
Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) had a team-high three shot attempts, while Bella Marinelli (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) and Rachel Rutkowski (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) had two shot attempts each, with both players putting a shot on goal.
Taylor Frederick (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) and Amanda Hazel (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) also attempted shots for the Lions.
Alfred drew first blood just over three minutes into the game, when Nyah Solly scored at the 3:04 mark. The Saxons went on to add goals from Lina Young, Isabelle Dennis, Sidney Khuns, Abby Scanlan, and Julia Flaitz to establish a 6-0 advantage by the intermission.
Alfred tacked two more goals on to its total during the second half, getting tallies from Young and Darby Lukowski to make it 8-0.
Penn State Altoona women's soccer returns home for its next game, as the Lions will host non-conference foe Wilson College this Wednesday, September 11, at 5 p.m.
