Lions Suffer Home Loss to Wilson

ALTOONA, Pa. – On Wednesday evening, the Penn State Altoona women's soccer team returned home to face off against Wilson College at Spring Run Stadium, and the Lions were dealt another loss when the Phoenix prevailed 3-0.

Wilson (4-0-1) got goals from Zoie Echols and Annie Smith in the first half, then added a goal from Halley Shaffer in the second half.

Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) had four shots on goal for Penn State Altoona (0-4-1), followed by Sophia Nelson (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) and Isabel McEvoy (Scotch Plains, NJ/ Scotch-Plains Fanwood), who were on board with one apiece.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) started her fifth game of the season at goalkeeper for the Lions and made six saves.

In the first half of the game, the Lions came out strong, but Wilson was first to strike only 8:06 into the game, when a goal from Echols placed the Phoenix into an early lead. Wilson struck again at 35:09 with a goal from Smith that put the score at 2-0.

Coming out of the half, Altoona was hopeful to find the back of the net, but Wilson came up with the next score, as Shaffer landed one in the goal at 51:43 to give her team a 3-0 lead.

Altoona kept fighting, but the Lions were unable to get on the board as Wilson wrapped up a 3-0 victory.

Next on the radar, the Lions will take on Chatham University at 1 p.m. at home this Saturday, September 14.
