Five Lions Voted to Women’s Soccer All-AMCC Team

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Five student-athletes from the Penn State Altoona women's soccer program were voted to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference team, which was announced on Tuesday morning.

Senior forward Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) was voted to the first team, senior defender Hannah Brubaker (San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch) and junior midfielder Rachel Rutkowski (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) were second-team selections, and senior goalkeeper Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) and freshman defender Madeline Boser (Beaver, PA/Beaver) were picked to the third team.

Smith started all 17 games in her fifth season with Penn State Altoona this fall, when she became the Lions' all-time leader in points (109) and goals (46). Among all AMCC players, she finished the season ranked second in shots attempted (74), third in points (23) and shots on goal (36), fourth in goals scored (9), and seventh in assists (5). Smith was also named the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28.

Brubaker started all 17 games in her fourth year with the Penn State Altoona women's soccer program, leading a Lions' defensive effort that limited opponents to the third-fewest goals (33) of any team in the conference while helping her squad to the third-best goals-against average (1.94) in the league. Brubaker's experience was key in Penn State Altoona's young defense, and her intelligent play and anticipation helped prevent scoring opportunities for the Lions' opponents.

Rutkowski played in 16 games as a junior with the Lions, including making 15 starts, while switching positions from defense to midfield this season. Her athleticism and persistence in defending was a big asset to the team, and she also contributed offensively by scoring two goals, recording one assist, attempting 19 shots, and putting 10 shots on goal.

Baustert started all 17 games between the pipes for Penn State Altoona this fall, spending 1,418 minutes and 12 seconds in goal. Among all AMCC keepers, she ranked second in the conference in saves (92), third in shutouts (3), save percentage (.754), and wins (6), and fourth in goals-against average (1.90). Additionally, Baustert received the AMCC Defensive Player of the Week award on Oct. 7.

Boser stepped into the lineup as a freshman and started all 17 games as part of Penn State Altoona's back line, being part of a unit that allowed the third-fewest goals (33) and compiled the third-best goals-against average (1.94) in the conference. Her ability in one-on-one situations and her on-field communication were particular strengths that allowed the freshman to flourish in her first year.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer finished the season 6-9-2 overall, including a 5-2-1 record within the AMCC. The Lions placed third in the conference's regular season standings and went on to reach the semifinal round of the AMCC's postseason tournament.
