Presidents Hand Women’s Soccer First Loss

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, when the Lions fell 4-1 to non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College at Alexandre Stadium.

W&J (3-1) scored three first-half goals en-route to a three-goal win over Penn State Altoona (2-1-1).

Jordan Yaletsko (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Academy Charter) scored her second goal of the season for the Lions, while Kira Trexler (Martinsburg, PA/Central) recorded the assist. Yaletsko, Trexler, Ivory MoDavis (Bethlehem, PA/Southern Lehigh), and Grace Turner (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) each had a shot on goal.

Mya Torres (Culpeper, VA/Culpeper County) made the start at goalkeeper and had three saves across her 90 minutes of work.

W&J struck first, just 5:10 into the game when Ava Capozzoli found the back of the net. The Presidents went on to get goals from Alexa Taylor and Dove Corrette-Bennett later in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

W&J boosted its lead to 4-0 at 54:24 with a Maura Heberle goal.

Penn State Altoona got on the board at the 70:29 mark, when Trexler set up Yaletsko, who scored her second goal of the season to make it 4-1.

W&J finished with a 15-9 advantage in shot attempts, including a slight 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were 5-4, in favor of the home squad.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer returns to action on Saturday, September 13 at 1 p.m. with a road game against non-conference foe Chatham University.
